The Story Behind the Hand-Painted Camellia Cups
Today, I’m excited to introduce our Peonyceramics hand-painted camellia cups—where artistry meets functionality in every sip.
In the southeastern corner of my childhood courtyard stood a red camellia tree. Its trunk was as thick as an adult’s thigh, and starting in October, it would bloom into a sea of crimson blossoms. Petals blanketed the ground, and the air carried a quiet sense of ceremony. My grandfather once told me the tree had been planted by his own grandfather. As a child, I would count on my fingers, trying to figure out the tree’s age, but I never quite succeeded.

This deeply rooted memory inspired the creation of two handcrafted ceramic cups—each painted with delicate camellia motifs, and shaped entirely by hand in my studio. One features an elegant, waist-cinched silhouette. The other draws inspiration from the wide-brimmed traditional bamboo hat. Both are meant to be part of your daily rituals, bringing warmth, beauty, and a touch of nostalgia to modern life.
The “Waisted” Camellia Cup: Graceful Lines, Elegant Hold
This cup is all about fluid curves and balance. Its cinched midsection offers a natural grip, while the silhouette echoes the elegance of traditional Chinese forms. The hand-painted camellia blossoms gently wrap around the body of the cup, giving the impression of petals swaying in the breeze—graceful, yet full of life.

The “Bamboo Hat” Camellia Cup: Open Form, Immersive Aroma
Inspired by the traditional Asian douli (bamboo hat), this ceramic cup features a wide mouth and grounded base. The design encourages aromas to fully release—ideal for enjoying floral teas or robust brews. Its form is simple and sincere, yet quietly artistic. Perfect for unhurried mornings at home or focused moments at your desk.

Like the waisted version, it offers the same sense of tranquility, just in a more open, contemplative form.
Crafted by Hand: From Clay to Cup, Layer by Layer
As a ceramic artist based in Jingdezhen, every piece I make is created by hand—from selecting the clay to throwing, trimming, glazing, and firing. These handmade ceramic cups are painted using the traditional underglaze technique, locking in fine camellia details beneath a silky glaze.
This method not only protects the artwork from fading over time but also enhances the tactile warmth of each piece. Fired at high temperatures, these ceramic cups are durable, food-safe, and infused with the spirit of slow craft.
A Gift of Meaning: For Those Who Cherish the Everyday

The camellia symbolizes enduring love, gentle companionship, and quiet devotion. With that in mind, these hand-painted cups make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, housewarmings, weddings, or simply to say “I’m thinking of you.” Each piece comes with carefully designed packaging, adding a touch of ceremony to the unboxing experience.
Hand-Painted Camellia Cups: A Slower Life, One Sip at a Time
Beauty doesn’t always come in grand gestures—it often hides in the everyday. A hand-painted ceramic cup with elegant form and a warm feel can turn a simple drink into a grounding ritual.

If you’re looking for a gift that blends practicality with artistry, or simply a companion for your quiet moments, the Camellia Cup Collection may be just what you need. Here’s to slowing down, appreciating craft, and finding joy in the little things.
