I’ve always wanted to create a custom handmade blue-and-white ceramic cup. Although people primarily associate blue and white with blue tones, it follows a similar principle to the five colors in traditional Chinese ink painting, where each piece reveals its unique character.
Artisans commonly apply gray, blue, or white glazes to traditional blue-and-white porcelain, which is often seen in daily life. However, for this handmade blue-and-white ceramic cup created by PeonyCeramics, we chose a warm white glaze, giving it a softer and warmer feel, rather than the usual cool tones.

Brushwork and Form-custom Handmade Ceramic Cup
We shaped the flowers and leaves using expressive, freehand brushstrokes, allowing them to flow naturally without the constraints of rigid outlines.
As a result, the overall aesthetic becomes more graceful and fluid. In terms of color, we pursued a balance of classical elegance and refreshing clarity, evoking a sense of timeless charm.

I designed the scrolling floral pattern in response to the vessel’s form, simplifying the traditional motif and rendering it with expressive, calligraphic strokes. The quiet blue glaze and the continuous winding of the branches echo one another within a carefully measured space, creating a subtle tension.
Perhaps this is the way I wish people to see blue-and-white porcelain.
In an age that embraces diverse aesthetics and celebrates creative individuality, these custom handmade ceramic cups fully deserve praise with words like translucent, delicate, refined, and quietly luminous—qualities reminiscent of jade.

To preserve more of the handmade character, I often leave a ring of throwing marks at the base of each cup. When paired with the Qingbai glaze inside, those subtle traces begin to resemble ripples on water—gently radiating outward.

In this round of making vine cups, I slightly enlarged the rim diameter compared to previous versions. This allows the surface of the pour to better showcase latte art, while also meeting everyday needs for coffee drinkers.

I hope PeonyCeramics these custom handmade vine pattern mugs with their quiet glazes can bring a touch of warmth and intention to your daily rituals.
